Raul Ruiz Jr. is running for State Representative for District 113 because he believes in fighting for the needs of everyday Floridians. Raul’s upbringing and involvement in his community have shown him the value of service to fellow Floridians and Americans from all walks of life. He brings this very same dedication and perseverance to his campaign.
Raul Ruiz Jr. was born on July 11, 1981 at Baptist Hospital in Miami, Florida. While growing up, Raul learned the value of hard work and dedication from his father, Raul Sr., who was and still is a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service, and his mother, Susana, who has worked in the cruise line industry since Raul’s birth. Both parents emigrated from Cuba when they were relatively young and grew up in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. Four years after Raul’s birth, a new addition to the family was added when Raul’s brother, Javier, was born on November 18, 1985. Raul also has a sister, Yanel Gonzalez, who now lives in Lake City, Florida.
Raul attended Miami Senior High School in Miami, Florida. While there, Raul served as the Student Government President. He was an AP Scholar and the recipient of numerous statewide and nationwide scholarships. In addition, Raul served as the captain of the Miami Senior High Million Dollar Band and performed at various music festivals, including the IAJE Midwest Jazz Festival in Chicago and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland. Raul was also elected to the National Honor Society and the National BETA Club. Raul graduated as the valedictorian of his class in 1999.
