Description

Probullstats made its debut in February of 1999, largely due to the efforts of then PRCA Bull Riding Event Director Bryan McDonald. Prior to the internet revolution, Bryan regularly mailed copies of PRCA bull riding judges sheets to most of the top bull riders to help them keep up with the performance of many bulls in the PRCA and make informed travel decisions based on the quality of bull they had drawn at any given rodeo - particularly when they were unable to make all the rodeos they were entered in.

In 1999, when Bryan first contacted me about helping launch Probullstats, I knew little about the internet and next to nothing about building and maintaining a web site. But we got it going, and posted plain text versions of the judges sheets. Bryan typed all of these up from copies of the actual handwritten sheets, and that year we posted about 170 rodeos.

Shortly after we launched the site, a search for "probullstats" on Altavista (then the most comprehensive search engine on the web) yielded ZERO results. Today, a search for "probullstats" on Google turns up some 65,100 web pages. By the end of the 2005 season, we will have processed results from around 1450 rodeos and bull riding events, and we long ago lost count of the individual pages that reside on the site. For about three years now, we've been storing all the judges sheet information as competition records in a custom built, enterprise level database - which allows us to do much more sophisticated statistical analysis on the performance of bulls and riders in the PRCA and the PBR.
