CORPORATE BACKGROUND
PrismNet was founded in Austin, Texas in April of 1995 as a local dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP). At that time PrismNet was one of approximately 200 locally owned Austin ISPs. With a clear vision and understanding of the local markets, PrismNet adapted its strategy and focus from dialup towards business class services such as T1s and collocation. Over the past nine years, PrismNet has acquired eight other ISPs. The most notable of those acquisitions was in May of 2004 when PrismNet acquired the assets of IOCOM Corp., formally known as Illuminati Online, and one of Austin's first and most prominent ISPs.
In the later half of 2004 PrismNet combined forces with Internet Gateway of Georgetown, TX. Internet Gateway had a similar story of growth to that of PrismNet. Internet Gateway was founded as RyteByte in 1996 as a computer repair shop and dialup service provider. RyteByte purchased it's competitor Internet Gateway and continued to build its portfolio of services and broadened its reach into the surrounding Texas Hill Country. As Internet Gateway grew, they eventually pioneered the Wireless ISP market for its service area under the name of CIR Wireless. It was for these reasons that PrismNet and Internet Gateway came together under the PrismNet, Ltd. name.
Today, PrismNet is the largest locally owned ISP in Austin, and also provides services to the Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio markets. PrismNet is consistently ranked in Austin's top ten ISP's list in multiple categories, as noted by the Austin Business Journal. Through a clear understanding of the changing ISP market, PrismNet will continue to adapt and grow with its customers.
