Springwood Pleiones are a small family business established in 1985.
by Ken and Christine Redshaw. Ken was a professional horticulturist all his working life and has been growing Pleiones for over forty years. He has produced a number of his own hybrids and was involved with Dr.David Harberd in the hybridising which resulted in Pln.Shantung. The latter is probably still the best and most successful Pleione hybrid ever raised and the nursery specialises, amongst others, in Pln.Shantung "RIDGEWAY", a clone which Ken was responsible for selecting and naming. Exhibiting has been a key activity for Springwood Pleiones to promote their bulbs and they have numerous awards to their credit from Chelsea, the World Orchid Show, Harrogate and many others.
The business has continued to go from strength to strength and is now in the process of transferring to the next generation to ensure continuity. Ken and Christine's youngest son, Simon, has now taken on the day to day running of the nursery and both he and Ken are keen to continue to promote the business. They would appreciate any feedback from customers both old and new.
Although the nursery has a stock of plants for sale all year round and welcomes visitors, by appointment, much of it's trade is done by mail order. The easing of trading regulations throughout most of Europe means that an increasing amount of business is done with the E.E.C. However, the tightening of regulations with many countries outside this community means that every order from the rest of the world is treated on it's individual merits with regard to costing, dependant on that countries individual regulations. All enquiries are welcome about varieties not listed as the collection contains many more varieties than those which are listed.
