Description
The company originated in 1995 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as Plant Care Information Systems, Inc. The Founder, Douglas St. Clair, an avid horticulturist saw the need for a comprehensive database on how to take care of houseplants.
By 1999 the database had grown to over 1,300 species, a website focusing on house plants was created, and the company name was changed to Plantcare.com, Inc.
In summer of 2000, Doug met Dr. Derek Burch, a recognized authority on botanical pathology with fifty years of horticultural experience, who agreed to join PlantCare.com as its Consulting Editor. Derek gained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Wales (U.K.) and later on, his Ph.D. from the University of Florida.
