The Regional Planning Partnership (RPP) is the oldest non-profit smart growth research and advocacy organization that is dedicated to enhancing the quality of community life through better land use planning and regional cooperation. RPP defines successful smart growth as development that will:
RPP was first established in 1968 in Princeton, New Jersey as the Middlesex-Somerset-Mercer Regional Council. Founders sought to provide a forum for stakeholders from the three counties around Princeton to plan together for a better future. The organization changed its name in 1999 to the Regional Planning Partnership to reflect its growing statewide and national reputation for new ideas and balanced positions on regional planning and smart growth.
