We were founded in 1962 by Cecile M. Zaik who was committed to offering the Ashland community an education based on the coordinated research of Dr. Maria Montessori and her associates: Alfred Adler, John Dewey, and Jean Piaget. The school has grown in the past decade into a warm, loving community of students, families, and teachers committed to offering children an international world-class education. Pincushion Hill Montessori is a board run school and has been a non-profit organization since the 1980's.
Forty-three years ago, Cecile searched for the best education that would allow her four children to develop their potential; she found Montessori. The first Montessori school in New England, grew to fill the families home, as twenty-five children enrolled on September 1962.
In 1979, Christine Kovago, Cecile's daughter and a Montessori child herself, came aboard as a Children's House Montessori teacher. Several years later, she directed the Children's House program and continued to teach.
