Pickering Laboratories designs, manufactures, and sells specialized analytical chemistry instruments and solutions for the environmental, pharmaceutical and biochemical laboratory markets. While these two markets have completely separate and distinct requirements, we offer to each a complete package, including detailed methods, customer applications, and service support. Based upon the analytical technology known as liquid chromatography, an elegant, non-destructive analytical chemistry technique for separating a mixture of compounds, our systems make it possible to identify a wide range of compounds with high sensitivity and very specifically.
For the environmental market we provide testing systems for pesticides and herbicides. Carbamates, the most widely-employed biodegradable pesticides in the world, “self-destruct” harmlessly when applied properly. The U.S. EPA and foreign government agencies, however, concerned about the possibility of migrating toxic residues, have mandated testing of drinking water supplies. Commercial products like SEVIN® contain the carbamate compound Carbaryl. Roundup® and Rodeo®, popular biodegradable herbicides, contain glyphosate as an active ingredient. Amino acid analysis is also used for molecular structure and quality control of pharmaceuticals as well as biotechnology products and by-products.
