Welcome to our incredible Permaculture site on Orcas Island. We have propagated and planted thousands of fruit and nut trees, along with countless understory shrubs, herbs and vines. At every opportunity we eat ourselves silly on plums, raspberries, apples, and all manner of fruits and vegetables grown here. Our site is featured in Bill Mollison's "Global Gardener" video and on the cover of Intentional Communities Magazine "Living the Permaculture Dream."
Orcas island is located in the center of the San Juan Archipelago in Northwestern Washington state, USA. These islands are in the rain-shadow of the Olympic Mountains and have lakes, marshes and fertile valleys this gives us a climate very conducive to horticulture.
Being of a maritime Mediterranean climate this area is known to be the northern most extension of the California climate zone and is locally considered a banana belt.
