Pats Computer Solutions -> Computer Maintenance tips and tricks

Description

I have been working with computers in one fashion or another since I was in 4th Grade. I started out on old Apple II computers (along with their compatibles), and eventually worked my way to Apple IIGS and IBM compatible computers in college. I began my programming experience in ApplesoftBASIC, and learned Pascal, COBOL, FORTRAN, RPG II/400, and am learning Visual Basic 6.0/.NET. The Operating Systems I've worked with are ProDOS (Apple II), MS-DOS from versions 3.30 to 5.00, Windows 3.1 through Windows XP Professional, and Red Hat Linux 9.0. Also,I have dabbled in Windows Server 2003 a little.

Pats Computer Solutions (the site) started out as a place to explain general maintenance tips for my friends to have at their disposal.. I've been helping people with their computers for about 2 years now.. Both online (using MSN Messenger and NetMeeting) or in person. As I started to create the tips and links pages, I realized there were a lot of items that people ask me about. Around this time, the "Blaster" worm attacked Windows NT/200/XP computers, and people became more aware of spyware, adware, and viruses. So, I was flooded with questions like "I think I have a virus, what do I do?" and "Do I need a firewall?" Thus, the pages about firewalls, antivirus programs, and security information pages were born.

Eventually, I'm planning on opening a computer repair business in my hometown. Right now, I'm taking a course through Foley-Belsaw on Computer Repair.
