Course History

The golf course was built in two phases. In 1964, what has become the back 9 was opened for play. The original clubhouse, which now serves as the Salishan Leaseholders clubhouse, was located on the Salishan Peninsula, and the number 13 hole served as the first hole. During this period, the golf course's second phase was still being determined, as well as the location of the Lodge. Upon determining that the Lodge would be located on the east side of Highway 101, the second 9 holes were built on this site as well. Fred Federspiel was hired as the architect for this entire project and created two distinct 9 holes of golf for the players to enjoy. What would become the first 9 holes is an enjoyable journey through the forested east side of Highway 101, with plenty of elevation changes placed a premium on shot creation. The second 9 holes were built to offer players a links-style golf experience, taking advantage of the sites ocean vistas and coastal breezes. A new clubhouse was also built "between the nines" as well as a driving range and practice green.
