Description
OUG (Governmental Law) 121/2001, published in Monitorul Oficial ("Official Newspaper") no. 633 on October 9th, 2001, stipulated that all international adoptions involving Romanian children are suspended for a period of 12 months. This is due to the fact that the National Authority for Child Protection and the Ministry of Justice will reanalyse the juridical procedures on international adoptions for aligning the internal legislation with the international regulations in this field. OUG 121/2001 entered into effect on the day it was published in the Monitorul Oficial, on October 9th.
However, recently, after 9 months since that OUG, the Romanian government issued a new OUG containing new legislation intended to improve the process of adoption. This OUG still has to be voted by the Romanian Parliament, but it is sure that soon the process of international adoptions will start again.
