Title

Ontario Mediation & Rehabilitation Services -- Rodney John

Description

Mediation has been used throughout history in conflicts as great as war and as small as the placement of the neighbour's fence. All conflicts can be resolved through negotiation under the right conditions. Mediation creates the opportunity for this negotiation.

How does this conflict resolution work? Two or more people, having trouble with any kind of dispute, turn to a third, neutral party. This person, the mediator, helps them clarify the issues and come to an understanding that both parties accept and find workable. In Ontario today, mediation serves as an alternative to litigation in conflicts involving labour, business, divorce, civil disputes, and small claims court.

Dr. Rodney John is the supervisor of the family mediation program at the Unified Family Court at Newmarket, Ontario. He also works there as on-site mediator, where he receives cases directly from judges and conducts in-take evaluations with couples who refer themselves to the court or who are referred by their lawyers.
