Description

We would say that along with the lives of other early Friends and Christian revolutionaries, George Fox lived and preached a life of holy obedience to the same Christ Jesus who taught and still teaches the righteousness of God. He was not the least interested in establishing a new sect but in bringing people - all people - to the Light of Christ within each of us.

Fox was born in the year 1624 of honest working parents who were practicing Christians . At that time, there were independent Christians who strove for Truth. Fox traveled among them as well as among members of the various main line Churches such as the Baptists, Catholics and the Presbyterians. Many of these aforementioned groups formed after the English monarch rebelled against the Pope for not allowing the King to marry a divorced person. He therefore established what he called a National Catholic Church which in turn authorized the King James version of the Bible which did not really differ from the text of the Protestant Bible of the time. Fox quoted from both versions, even memorizing key passages whenever local authorities imprisoned him.

In his youth, this itinerant minister traveled many miles to hear so-called prominent preachers utter outward words pertaining to God, Christ and even the holy spirit, the Light of Christ. None of these pastors impressed this young ardent seeker and finder because they would often emphasize concepts about Christ rather than a true relationship with Jesus. This young man felt that the various ministers who were paid to preach the Gospel simply did not know God, despite their use of theological language.
