Mission Statement: The mission of Laura Ward/Octavia Cup Dance Theatre is to create and present high-octane avant-garde dance theater that reaches people in a visual and visceral way. The company, founded in 1998, approaches performance in a richly textured manner which includes text, music, voice and installation art. Social and political elements are incorporated. What adds to the unusual style of Octavia Cup is the fact that all of the dancing is done on pointe, pushing pointe work into bold new frontiers, knocking it off balance, moving it out of the vertical dimension, while presenting it in highly visual frameworks full of surprise and invention.
