Title
Nuclear Veterans :: A Resource For Nuclear Test Veterans
Description
Excerpted from the website:
- About Us
- My name is Ray Whitehead and I was sent to Christmas Island in 1957 - I was in the advance party. We were transported by aircraft. I witnessed four hydrogen bombs and one atomic bomb over a period of 11 months with no protective clothing or radiation badges. One of my jobs was loading the crusher with coral while operating an excavator. The dust from the crushed coral was like fine talcum powder. We worked with no protection and with no masks. We were given a daily ration of fresh milk to wash it away. Our tented living accommodation, including ourselves, was sprayed weekly with DDT.
