- Founded in 1950, in Flushing, NY, by owner Kelly Gwin; North State began by servicing construction companies and their job sites. In the mid 1950's as construction for the St. Lawrence Seaway project began, North State set up a warehouse in Massena, NY to provide a convenient source of supply for the contractors at this site. In 1958, with the advent of the Niagara Falls hydroelectric project, North State was one of the first on the scene. From its new Model City, NY location, North State again provided the quality, dependability, and convenience that the construction industry demands. When the project was completed, and having built a solid reputation, North State moved its warehouse to Buffalo, NY, where it has remained as the permanent location for the region.
