Insecure.Org - Nmap Free Security Scanner, Tools & Hacking resources

Description

In case it isn't obvious from the rest of my site, I am a hacker. By this I mean that I enjoy playing with computers and pushing hardware and software to its limits. My primary interests are in security, networking, and cryptography. These obviously overlap substantially -- crypto is essential for security, which is critical for public computer networks such as the Internet.

My favorite computing task is programming, which I engage in daily. While I know many languages, 90% of my work is in C/C++ or Perl. I only feel comfortable on UNIX boxes -- especially free operating systems such as Linux, FreeBSD, and OpenBSD. These platforms are extremely powerful, freely redistributable, and come with a massive collection of useful software. Source code availability makes them more secure (through peer review) and much easier to customize and understand. My Nmap Security Scanner now supports Windows and so I have forced myself to learn the basics of that programming environment. But I still don't like it.

Like many hackers, I enjoy reading. In fact, my handle is after Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Specifically, I really enjoyed his seemingly absurd yet insightful Notes from Underground. I am a little embarrassed that a Google search for for "fyodor" now lists me before such a legend! I guess it is hard to earn and maintain a decent PageRank when you're dead. I enjoy many other authors (including technical nonfiction) and hope to put up reviews of my favorites if sufficient free time ever materializes.
