Mary Nisbet has spent the last six years in an executive leadership position structured around service lines. In this capacity, she designed and implemented a service line management strategy and structure, including determination of service lines, deployment of resources, establishment of a physician leadership council and medical director's role, creation of operations councils to align service lines and service centers, and established the service line business director role to support service line operations/financial reporting. She achieved an operational savings of more than $4 million, made improvements in clinical performance, and a significant improvement in overall financial performance of the organization (from red ink to black).
Her responsibilities in service line management have included establishment of the Chief Nursing Executive role and relationship to service line leaders, creation of a Nursing Council to align operational issues and service line deliverables, specification of senior leadership team roles and responsibilities, determination of service lines and management structure, and day-to-day operations of the ortho/neuro/rehab and surgical services service lines. As a senior leadership team member in a newly merged organization, Mary orchestrated the integration of perioperative services, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation facilities, and nursing departments between two campuses with a newly integrated allopathic/osteopathic medical staff. The merger was complete in 1997 and is one of the most successfully merged Health Systems in the country.
