Description
Nicare is the international development unit for the Northern Ireland health and social services. It is a public sector body, established by the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) in 1990. Since its establishment, the unit has carried out work in over 50 countries providing high calibre technical assistance and training consultancy in the fields of health, social security, social development and social care.
As a directorate of the Central Services Agency, Nicare is an integral part of the Northern Ireland Health and Personal Social Services (HPSS), which offers high quality, cost effective care with universal coverage of the population. In addition to the National Health Service (NHS), the HPSS also includes social care services. We also have a direct link to all health trusts, authorities and agencies
Nicare has a close association with the Department for Social Development (DSD) and the Northern Ireland Social Security Agency (SSA), which is the sole provider of social assistance in the province.
