About PLAYERS INC
PLAYERS INC, the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFL Players Association, was created in 1994 with a mission of "taking the helmets off" the players and marketing them as personalities as well as professional athletes. Representing over 1,800 active players and 3,000 retired players, PLAYERS INC has become a major player in the sports marketing industry.
Retail licensed products represent the core of PLAYERS INC's business. The company does business with more than 80 companies in categories such as trading cards and collectibles, videogames, fantasy football, apparel and novelties and other retail licensed products.
NFL Players grant the NFLPA their group licensing rights to use their name, number, likeness and image. In turn, the NFLPA, grants those rights to PLAYERS INC to use for retail products or promotional programs. While some PLAYERS INC group licensing programs use as few as six players, others use as many as 1,800 league-wide. Some examples of the more than 80 PLAYERS INC licensed programs are:
