Title

New York Search & Rescue

Description

New York Search and Rescue was incorporated in June 2002, after two years of planning and research. The founders are three emergency services professionals: one New York City Police Detective, one Firefighter and one Port Authority Police Officer. All three had worked together as Search & Rescue Instructors with New York State’s Division of Military and Naval Affairs, Army Division, New York Guard. All told, they had a combined total of over 50 years of Emergency Services experience at the time New York Search and Rescue was founded.

The founders had realized, as early as 1998, that although there was an abundance of Emergency Services trained personnel in the lower Hudson Valley, that there was a shortage of Search & Rescue specific trained personnel. Their aim was, and still is, to fill that shortage with competent and experienced searchers.

New York Search and Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Its members, mostly off duty police, fire, ems and military, are not paid for their time, get no reimbursement for training expenses and must purchase their own equipment. We welcome all donations of time, money and equipment. One hundred percent of donations go towards supporting our Search and Rescue activities in the community.
