Title Greater Danbury's News and Information Source

The News-Times is firmly planted as an icon and element of Danbury's history. Founded on September 8, 1883 under the name Evening News by James Montgomery Bailey, known as the "Danbury News Man." The Evening News would flourish over the next 20 years. In 1927, a competing daily Danbury Times was established, financed by Hat mogul Frank H. Lee. Economic circumstances of the 1930s precluded the operation of two competing dailies. So the Evening News and the Times merged on January 31, 1933. The newly formed paper worked under the name Danbury News-Times.

The Danbury area has always been a lucrative market, Ottaway Newspapers-Radio (Ottaway Newspapers, Inc today) saw this and offered to purchase the stock at very attractive prices. After the acquisition was complete Ottaway Newspaper-Radio dropped the Danbury from the nameplate leaving The News-Times. Celebrated its centennial in September 1983, The News-Times published a commemorative edition of the Ottaway takeover. Under the guise of Ottaway, The News-Times has grown into a complete media solution for the small to large business. Offering dynamic marketing and advertising solution through a multitude of mediums. Ottaway has helped The News-Times to evolve to better suit the market demands and with over 120 year in the greater Fairfield County, no other paper has the presence or the History of The News-Times. .
