In 1984 Chuck Forsberg decided to start his own company. He worked at a place called Computer Development Incorporated. There were several companies with the same name in the Wu Telex directory. Other companies with the same initials were much better known. Forsberg decided to use a unique name. A fascination with Star Trek stories about clashes of civilizations led to some random thoughts. Somehow the word OMEN popped up. It had nothing to do with the occult or the movie by that name.
