Nationally, MPHI is one of several collaborative research and development institutes in the field of community health. Further, it is one of a select few that are pre-qualified, by virtue of a contract with the federal Health Care Financing Administration, to bid on high-priority projects related to improving health care in the U.S. For more information on other public health institutes, please visit www.nnphi.org.
The Institute was founded in 1990 by Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, and the Michigan Department of Community Health. It is governed by a board of 12 directors, representing government, the partner universities, foundations, and others.
