About MobilityTravel.cOm.au

Mobilitytravel is a website designed to provide travel information to those people who have special access and mobility needs. This site is 100% privately operated and we receive no government assistance or private sponsorship. mobilitytravel will aid people in deciding on a travel destination by showcasing a greater range of accommodation options including hotels with ramps, showers without steps or bathtubs and cities or resorts with great transport and infrastructure in order to make their holiday experience that little bit better. A growing number of people are finding themselves with a special need that impacts on their ability to travel. More families have children with disabilities; more adults have grown up with or have acquired a disability through accident or illness and our population is ageing.

Having grown up with disability from birth I am uniquely placed to talk about these issues and together with my family and friends do something to help those who have similar needs.

In a family with a disabled child life can be very stressful and a holiday is a great way to relieve some of this pressure. While there is a growing availability of respite care for families to take time away from their disabled children many families wish to holiday together and we hope to be able to give them resources to enable this. Knowing your airline can assist with boarding and your extra luggage requirements, that there are wheelchair taxis or accessible buses at your destination and that your hotel will meet all your access needs removes a significant burden on the family and can make the holiday a stress free occasion that they will look back on with fond memories.

For adults like me with a lifelong disability or those with acquired injury the journey to independence can be a long and slow one. However many if not all of us will reach a point where we wish to take steps by ourselves and while this may require travelling with carers to assist with our daily activities, fully accessible rooms and special wheelchair access; or just a few additional aids to make the journey more comfortable it is a step we all have the right to take. I have been fortunate in that when I was younger my parents took the chance and took me away on a number of holidays and while there were always difficulties to be faced it helped grow my desire to see more of the world.

Globally in the developed world the population is continuing to age. While this section of the community does not necessarily have the same access requirements that I do they have a range of other considerations when they assess a destination for a holiday. We hope in this case that mobilitytravel will aid them in deciding on a travel destination by showcasing a greater range of accommodation options including hotels with ramps, showers without steps or bathtubs and cities or resorts with great transport and infrastructure in order to make their holiday experience that little bit better.

Best wishes and happy travels
