Welcome to the Minnesota Atheists’ website! I am glad you stopped by and hope you find our website interesting. We have been active in Minnesota for over thirteen years, gathering together those who have given up their belief in a god or gods to enjoy each other’s intelligent company while we support a variety of efforts to educate the public and influence legislation that may either benefit or interfere with our interests as non-religious people.
Every atheist I have ever met has had their story; some were fortunate enough to be born into atheist families. More of us came to atheism on our own at some point in our lives, sometimes in our high school or college years, and some, like me, much later in life. Usually this process occurred through a long period of reading and thinking and considering the evidence.
For some of us it has been a difficult journey, sometimes from the pressures of deeply religious family members; others because their families and communities are simply intolerant of any questioning of religious authority. In some cases we find that we become isolated in communities where a majority of social activities are centered on church groups.
