Description
According to the teachings of the Buddha, every human being has the potential to achieve the profound and lasting experience of happiness, free of all traces of pain and suffering. This transformation can be swiftly realized through the path of Vajrayana Buddhism. Vajrayana Buddhism is commonly known as the tantric path. The teachings of this path were brought to Tibet in the 9th century C.E. by the realized master Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche. Through inconceivable concerned activity, Padmasambhava firmly established the buddhadharma in Tibet, and at that time he made many prophecies about the future propagation of these teachings in the West. These teachings were preserved and practiced in Tibet for over a thousand years. This original lineage remains unbroken. It is known as the Nyingmapa, the Lineage of the Ancient Ones.
In the early 1980's the Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche created the original archival entity that today is known as Mirror of Wisdom. MoW is a non-profit corporation that, through various media, collects, preserves, and disseminates the Vajrayana teachings as they are transmitted to the West. MoW publishes pechas (Tibetan texts), contemporary commentaries and teachings, and practice texts. MoW records the current transmission of the Vajrayana dharma to the West, and produces audio and video tapes of oral teachings and liturgical practices. MoW also collects and makes available a selection of photographic material, such as Vajrayana iconographic art and photos of lamas.
Mirror of Wisdom Video was born of the vision of Gyatrul Rinpoche. Under his instruction, a video pioneer, wielding a dinosaurian VHS 1/2" videocamera, recorded His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche at various events during his 1980 visit to the U.S. Since then, under Gyatrul Rinpoche's continued inspiration and guidance, MoW Video has recorded many dharma events at various dharma centers in the U.S. We offer a collection of recorded practices and teachings, mainly from the Nyingmapa lineage, covering aspects of the Vajrayana path from preliminary to advanced levels.
