In 2003, the Minnesota Board on Aging, in partnership with the DHS, launched MinnesotaHelp.info, a web site with thousands of resources to help people find services to meet their needs. The MinnesotaHelp.info database has comprehensive resource information for seniors, caregivers and persons with disabilities. Expansion to include resources for families and children, as well as all Minnesota Medical Assistance and Medicare providers is scheduled to be completed soon. Planning has begun to integrate MinnesotaHelp.info into Phase II of Health Match and also use it in the implementation of the Aging and Disability Resource Center grant activities with Hennepin County. Projections for 2004 indicate that there will be 27,000 unique visitors to MinnesotaHelp.info.

MinnesotaHelp.info is the state's most comprehensive online human services database. The site is growing larger as all providers that are licensed by DHS and/or certified as Medicare and Medicaid providers, are added. The initiative is sponsored by numerous partners including the Department of Human Services, the Minnesota Board on Aging (lead), Hennepin County and the University of Minnesota Center of Aging, the area agencies on aging and the Metropolitan and Southwest Centers for Independent Living. The site includes services from government, for-profit and not for profit entities. The mission of the site is to ensure accurate and timely delivery of the most up-to-date information about resource to anyone who is doing a search for help whether consumer or professional. A secondary mission is to ensure that consumers can get access to private and public pay services so that they can make informed decision about their best options and direct their own lives.

The “special topics” area in MinnesotaHelp.info has expanded services with enhanced features. The site contains information links for all ages. The goal of the Board was to work with a large number of partners to leverage collective resources and develop a site that didn’t just focus on long-term care. It was recognized early in the planning process that that families who are caring for an aging parent, are generally faced with other challenges. Often referred to as the sandwich generation, people over the age of 30 can be providing care for an ailing parent and a child at the same time. The Minnesota Board on Aging recognizes that it is critical for caregivers and providers to have instant access to accurate information to help people maintain independence and make informed decisions.
