Based in San Diego, California, MindTouch was founded in January 2005 and from the beginning worked to build open source collaboration and knowledge manangement systems. Originally based on MediaWiki, MindTouch Deki has migrated to a unique system with a new UI and backend that stored content as XHTML rather than WikiText, (before June 2008, the product was called Deki Wiki).
Offering both server-side downloads of the software and a hosted option (through Wik.is), Mindtouch Deki is a comprehensive and innovative wiki platform integrating not just smooth group collaboration, but such features as an API and mashups with other Web 2.0 providers such as Flickr, Yahoo, Windows Live, and Google Maps.
MindTouch is a leading free and open source company, and their projects are found on SourceForge and are licensed under the GNU General Public License (the API is under the Apache License).
