Title

Australian Immigration Lawyer, specialist help with migration to Australia and Australian visas

Description

The skilled migration stream is the major component of Australia's migration program. Within that stream, the major categories are the independent and "Australian-linked" visa classes, all of which require the applicant to have recognised skills in an occupation on the SOL. Occupations on the SOL are identified by a six-digit ASCO code number. Each occupation is awarded either 40, 50 or 60 points on the skilled migration points test.

With effect from 8 September 2004, offshore skilled migration applications relying on the support of a sponsoring relative living in Sydney or nearby parts of New South Wales will only be accepted by Immigration if the nominated occupation is on a much more restricted list than the full SOL.

The restriction will only apply to subclass 138. It will not apply therefore to applicants who have completed their studies in Australia and are eligible to apply onshore within the following six months (see "From Student to Permanent Resident" for more information), or to independent skilled migration applications.
