National Heritage Insurance Company (NHIC) was founded in 1976 as a wholly owned subsidiary of EDS Corporation. On December 1, 1996, NHIC became the Medicare Part B contractor for Northern California. In August 1997, NHIC assumed the replacement contract for Medicare Part B in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. On December 1, 2000 NHIC became the Medicare Part B contractor for seven Southern California counties, making NHIC the first contractor in 30 years to process all of California's Medicare Part B claims.
Today we service 1.3 million beneficiaries and over 52,000 healthcare providers in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. In California we support 2.7 million beneficiaries and 90,000 providers.
