- Due to the rising incidence and cost of spine related pain over the last several years, many techniques have been developed for the treatment of chronic pain. This also applies to acute functionally impairing pain. Most exciting has been utilizing fluoroscopy (real time x-ray) to help localize structures in the spine for placement of medication. In the past, referral to a pain center usually meant blind injections. Blind injections were placement of medications using only anatomic land marks. If you are presently undergoing injections in this manner or plan to in the future, I would strongly advise against it.
