Gift vouchers are BIG business. According to 2005 estimates, produced by The Voucher Association, gift voucher sales in this country are currently worth around £1.41 billion per annum. The vast majority of this market is taken; by 20 or so multinational organisations and, as there are very few of these companies in Marple, almost all of this is spent outside the area or left unused in our handbags, wallets or bottom drawers.
This trend continues with the recent announcement that Post Office counters are to sell gift vouchers that can be redeem with many of the multi-national companies.
The launch of the ‘Marple Gift Voucher Cheques' initiative, a town-wide gift voucher scheme launched in September 2005, will benefit many Marple businesses and traders by keeping all the revenue sold by marplegiftvoucher.com within the town. The scheme is the brainchild of Felix Soleto Murillo, owner of Murillo's Tapas & Wine Bar, with 81 businesses already registered.
