Map Link

Description

Map Link's founders, Bill Hunt and Laura Ericson, love maps and travel. They started their business as a retail shop in Santa Barbara in 1984. Called Pacific Travelers Supply, the shop offered travel guidebooks, accessories, luggage, and maps to the public. From the beginning Bill and Laura recognized that the maps were the special draw that made the shop unique, so they started traveling around the world to have a broader assortment for the store. That expanded stock was the seed that eventually grew to become Map Link, a wholesale map distribution company.

Today, Map Link has become the North American distribution center for the map publishing industry. The warehouse, located in Goleta, California, a Santa Barbara suburb, comprises 31,000 square feet (2880 meters squared) and stocks over 100,000 different map titles. About 65 people work at the warehouse and several others live in scattered locations around the United States. About 1500 to 2000 parcels are shipped out every week to thousands of store customers in North America and another hundred or so in the rest of the world.

Map Link's owners and staff regularly travel around the world to purchase map and travel products. Our purchases, coupled with participation at the Frankfurt Bookfair, Book Expo, and the International Map Trade Association shows in the Americas, Europe, and Australia have established "links" to commercial map publishers and government agencies around the world. In addition, every year Map Link staff travel to sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America, or Southeast Asia to buy maps. Often, they must bring maps back in their luggage. Only through this extra effort can Map Link offer the most complete assortment of maps found anywhere in the world.
