Description
Manx Linx is a directory of Manx web sites. It is a directory, rather than a search engine because it does not use any software to search the web for relevant sites. Each site has been found by Manx Linx, or has been recommended to Manx Linx. The site is then visited to check that it does in fact qualify for entry in Manx Linx. Only then is the site added to the database. The database is checked at intervals to remove any defunct or no longer relevant links.
Manx Linx started out as a favourites list, and this was soon converted to a web page in 1998. In 1999 the site name manxlinx.com was registered. Then in early 2000 Manx Linx linked with the Manx Computer Bureau, and has been hosted on their servers since then.
At the same time Manx Linx was converted from a simple list of sites to a searchable database. This made Manx Linx easier to maintain and easier for the visitor to use. There were then more than 400 sites, and maintaining web pages with this number of links was becoming difficult.
