Manly has long been both a popular Sydney attraction and seaside suburb. The settlement of Manly dates back to the earliest days of colonial Sydney, and its history is inexorably linked to the ocean and the harbour.
For 150 years Manly Wharf has been the gateway to Manly. The first Manly Wharf was a fifty foot pier built on the present site, and it has been in continuous use as a ferry wharf ever since. Every year over 6 million commuters travel across Sydney Harbour on the scenic ferry or jet cat, passing through Manly Wharf on their way to and from work.
In 2003 this maritime icon reopened as a premiere Sydney attraction, following a multi million dollar facelift. The ferry wharf’s historic role as a central food and entertainment hub for Sydney tourists, day trippers, and commuters has been resurrected.
