About the Eskrima Syllabus

The Eskrima Syllabus at the club is drawn from a variety of styles, including the old Warriors Eskrima syllabus and Kali-Eskrima from the Inosanto line. New ideas and training methods are constantly being introduced as the club evolves. At the club we train from the start with weapons. The weapons training accelerates empty hand skills. In Eskrima, new students often initially advance more quickly compared to those of other traditional Martial Arts. This is because of the training methods we adopt.

Eskrima has many "flow drills" which allow controlled free movement and develops reaction speed straight away. Flow drills also give the student "muscle memory" through repetition, which again allows the student to progress quickly!

We also work from Angles of attack. Most Eskrima styles use this method and we normally work from 12 angles. We usually begin training the 12 angles of attack and defence with a single cane. When outsiders watch us train, they often think we are just learning to defend against a stick! In actual fact we are learning to defend against an ANGLE of attack - regardless of whether we hold a weapon or not. Nearly all of the weapons training translates to "empty hand" applications often giving the students a deeper understanding than may be gained from not using weapons.
