Description

Los Angeles Opera's 2005-2006 20th Anniversary Season marks an important milestone for the relatively young company, which has become, under the leadership of General Director Plácido Domingo, the United States' fourth largest opera house and now "...stands out as a newly important force in American Opera." (Mark Swed, Los Angeles Times). The season will include the world premiere of Elliot Goldenthals' Grendel, directed by Julie Taymor; two Company premieres, Robert Wilson’s production of Wagner’s Parsifal and a new production of The Grand Duchess, director Garry Marshall’s adaptation of Offenbach’s La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein; and six productions from the Company’s growing repertoire: Franco Zeffirelli’s production of Pagliacci, Ian Judge productions of Puccini’s Tosca and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Marta Domingo’s production of Verdi’s La Traviata and Robert Wilson’s recent production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. In addition, the Company will present concerts given by mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli and by baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
