His foundation in coaching lies in the ancient art of spiritual direction which he practiced and taught during his years of ministry. He has conducted numerous retreats and accompanied individuals on the road to deeper self awareness. He has facilitated workshops in spiritual direction in both South Africa and the United Kingdom.
After leaving full-time ministry in 2004, Jonathan expanded his practice and has coached corporate and private clients as well as conducting seminars in the art of coaching.
Jonathan has a special interest in the theory of personality type as developed by the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. As such he is a certified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and uses this powerful tool as the basis for coaching. This enables his clients to become aware of and set goals in accordance with their preferences, while at the same time discovering how they can draw on the abilities latent in their less preferred functions.
