Lightspeed Systems

Description

Lightspeed Systems was first established as McCarthy and Associates and was later incorporated as MacSoft in 1984. MacSoft, for obvious reasons, didn't turn out to be such a great name for a company focused on integrating disparate systems, namely Wang minicomputers and PCs. The corporate name change to Lightspeed Systems came in the mid 1990’s once our flagship product Lightspeed NVS saturated the Wang marketplace. By this time, the product had blossomed into a set of products for connecting LAN’s and WAN’s to legacy Wang VS computers.

Then, with changes abounding in the Banyan market, we developed a couple of products to help Banyan users integrate their Wangs, migrate from Wang and then eventually migrate from Banyan.

Next up, with our expertise in e-mail connectivity and migration, we developed tools that eased administration in the world of Microsoft Exchange®. It was then that the real growth of our company began. To keep pace with the rapidly changing industry, in 1995 we bought a T-1 line and thought we'd share it with a few of our local business friends. Before we knew it, we were a full-fledged Internet service provider with more than 20,000 customers throughout California. Of course, that meant our network administrators were facing new network traffic management issues every day and that’s when we realized that a single solution capable of tackling each of our issues didn’t exist. What did we do? We put our developers to work! As a result, our object-based software architecture, IP Magic Technology, was born.
