About Us

OUR parish was established on Sunday 7th February 1987 when Father Tom Rogers, retired Anglican priest, celebrated the Holy Eucharist in a chapel which we had set up in the foyer of the no longer used Wintergarden theatre in Rockhampton. This beautiful chapel was to serve a small but growing number of faithful Anglicans who had opted to continue and hold the traditional beliefs and values of the Christian Faith and worship in its Anglican expression.

OUR move came as a result of a local Synod decision to abandon the historic Apostolic Order by ordaining women. We believed this decision was a terrible mistake for no longer could claim be made to be part of the Universal Church Catholic. It was suggested at the time that those who in conscience could not accept this change to Apostolic Order should seriously consider their future in the Anglican Church of Australia and perhaps even join the Roman Catholic Church. Our wish was to remain Anglicans. OUR folk, together with other like-minded Anglicans round Australia, left behind their former parish churches and were placed under the pastoral care and protection of the Right Reverend Alfred Woolcock, Bishop Ordinary of the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada, Canada's Continuing Anglican church, until the late Fr. Albert Haley was consecrated Bishop for the Australian church on St. Luke's Day, 1988. IN 1989 the parish purchased a former Methodist church property in Horton Street at North Rockhampton and this building was altered and re-furbished for Anglican worship. TO the present day our faithful congregation comprising not only of Anglicans, but other Christians too, receive spiritual and pastoral support from our priests. THE most important duty of the Church is to worship God, so the parish church is the centre of our activities. Every Sunday Holy Communion is administered to the faithful in the Eucharistic Service we call the Mass. On weekdays the Mass is very simple but on Sunday it is as beautiful as we can make it with music, choir and ceremonial of our rich Anglican heritage. BEYOND our parish you will find many of our folk engaged in various community activities, not least the care of the frail and aged and handicapped children. We support local charities including LifeLine, St. Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army. IT is sometimes not too easy to plan for the future. However, we have much to be thankful for and continue to place our hope and trust in the hands of our heavenly Father. We give thanks that the Australian church continues to expand and that the traditional form of Anglicanism remains unchanged and is assured for generations to come. WE believe our simple but lovely parish church is a holy place where more and more people will come to be close to God and to know his peace.
