Title

LA Observed: Los Angeles media, news and sense of place

Description

Kevin Roderick—that would be me—is the editor and publisher of LA Observed. I'm a two-time author, thirty-year journalist and lifelong Angeleno. I'm currently a Contributing Writer on the masthead of Los Angeles magazine and an editor for hire. My background includes two decades as a staff writer and editor at the Los Angeles Times, a stint as L.A. bureau chief for The Industry Standard, freelance writing for Smithsonian and other publications, and creator of websites. I have reported extensively on Los Angeles and state politics, urban affairs, and the culture and environment of California—with some Hollywood, technology, sports, travel and style thrown in. I have written and edited award-winning journalism, and as an editor at the Times I shared in Pulitzer prizes for coverage of the 1992 riots and the 1994 earthquake. But then, so did a hundred or so others.

LA Observed is a website devoted to reporting, linkage and comment on Los Angeles and Southern California, with a focus on media—old and new, and the people who create both—plus Los Angeles news, politics, books and culture. History, architecture, geography, sports, weather and other subjects sometimes creep in.

There is generally something new posted at LA Observed every day, except on some weekends. Most days the posts begin appearing in the morning and continue into the night. If you wish to stay current, you need to check in through the day.
