La Fornaretta! Authentic Sicilian Restaurant and Pizzeria!


Even before my family and I arrived in San Francisco from Sicily in 1987, we had a vision to create an intimate and quaint restaurant in true Sicilian style to share with our new friends. We take great pride in using old family recipes and individually preparing, to your satisfaction, authentic Sicilian cuisine from the finest fresh and imported ingredients. Our Penne alla Norma, a true Sicilian favorite, features fresh eggplant and basil in a spicy tomato sauce, topped with imported Ricotta Salata cheese. Our Pappardelle con Porcini lays delicate slices of sautéed Porcini mushrooms, imported from Italy, on a bed of light ribbon noodles. Our Puttanesca Sauce, tangy and tantalizing, has been voted one of LA Times’ Top 10 Best Dishes in Los Angeles. Favorites of our regular customers are our daily seafood specials: generous portions of fresh fish like tuna, halibut, salmon, swordfish and mussels served with risotto or pasta.

Suzanne, our executive chef as well as co-owner, worked closely with her father for many years, where she was educated in the art and science of preparing authentic Sicilian cuisine. Our pizza dough was originally created by her father, Giovanni lo Coco. His light, yeasty, crusted pizza has been a favorite in the San Francisco bay area for over 30 years, and he has passed on his recipe to Suzanne to share with Southern California. Our Schiacciata flat bread is made from the same recipe as our pizza dough; served warm, it is a wonderful, chewy complement to our salads, appetizers and entrees.
