Description

Bellingham's own 85 - 100 member cross-cultural and cross-age singing group celebrates America's musical roots with works from all over the globe. We seek out unusual, stimulating, and uplifting music to share with our friends and neighbors. Musical selections are drawn from cultures throughout the world and span a range of styles from Gregorian chant to American pop, Polish carols to South African freedom songs, African-American gospel to modern Brazilian music. This eclectic mix brings an awareness and celebration of the world's cultures to both the community of singers and the wider community of audiences.

In addition to the regular concert seasons, the Kulshan Chorus performs outreach concerts on behalf of other organizations, which have included the Interfaith Coalition, Habitat for Humanity, Sean Humphrey House, and the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force. The Chorus has given numerous performances in celebration of the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., and in 1998 appeared with Judy Collins at the Mt. Baker Theatre. In October 2001, the chorus joined forces with the Whatcom Community Foundation in a program to honor philanthropy in Whatcom County. We perform at schools, churches, theaters, ferry terminals--any public space which can help carry our message of the shared heritage of humankind. We are all in this together.

The Kulshan Chorus is a private non-profit educational and performing arts organization [IRS code 501 (c)(3)] that has been performing for Whatcom County audiences since 1987.
