Excerpted from the website:

It’s one of my most vivid early memories- my first dance recital. It’s not the actual performance that is memorable though. What I remember most from that day, aside from being extremely excited to wear my beautiful costume (we were “The Munchkins” that year), was collecting sequins from the ground. Most likely they had fallen off of the older girl’s costumes; the older girls always had the prettiest, fanciest costumes. I don’t think I had ever seen sequins before but I thought they were beautiful and I wanted to find as many as I could. My mom and I went to Frank’s Nursery and Crafts on a regular basis (didn’t every 7 year old girl?) and I would spend all of my money on sequins. There was this special bulk package of sequins that said “Big Value!” on the top that were my favorite. They had all kinds of sizes, colors and bizarre shapes of sequins. The weirdest one that I’d come across was the rare faux-wood-deer-sequin. I’d bring the “Big Value!” packages home, rip them open and spread out all of the sequins on the ground. I’d divide them, categorize them, put them into different compartments of numerous tackle boxes, and then I’d just look at them. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do with them; I just thought they were pretty. At one point, I discovered the bead section of Frank’s. Since the beads were right next to the sequins, this wasn’t a huge discovery, but it was an eventful one. I began using the sequins and beads to make jewelry. Almost 20 years later, I have the same interests, although they have broadened a bit. I still love collecting beautiful, unusual beads. I love making jewelry. I love wearing jewelry.
