Description
KCME 88.7 FM is a member supported independent public radio station that broadcasts classical music twenty-four hours a day. Founded in 1977, KCME's studios were located in a small house near a babbling creek in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
Over the years, KCME has grown to the point where it now broadcasts its signal over a much wider area from its transmitter high atop Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs. KCME serves listeners in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs and Pueblo at 88.7 FM, with translators serving Woodland Park (93.5 FM), Cañon City/Florence (91.1 FM), Salida/Buena Vista (89.5 FM), Cripple Creek/Victor (89.5 FM), and Summit County at Summit Public Radio's 93.5 FM.
By satellite transmission, KCME's signal is heard in mountainous areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach and, in the future, KCME expects to broadcast to additional communities.
