Title

KAOS 89.3FM Olympia Community Radio

Description

All the money contributed by listeners goes into KAOS' programming budget. KAOS' primary programming cost is for personnel to coordinate our local and national programming schedule, including the training and support of our local volunteer program producers. Other programming costs include affiliation fees to the Public Radio Satellite System, Pacifica Network, and Public Radio International and independent national producers; telephone equipment and long-distance charges for keeping in touch with music industry and programming sources; parts and supplies for our production facilities; and printing of training materials.

No and yes. No two community stations are exactly alike, because of their emphasis on local content - that's the joy of community radio. However, KAOS shares many characteristics with many of the stations that have joined together to form the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB). In the Pacific Northwest, you can find community-minded radio stations in Washington at Bellingham (KUGS 89.3); Mt. Vernon (KSVR 90.1); Everett (KSER 90.7); Bellevue (KBCS 91.3); and the Yakima Valley (KDNA 91.9). In Oregon, you'll find them in Portland (KBOO 90.7) and Astoria (KMUN 91.9).
