In 1948, Rabbi Alfred J. Kolatch, a Yeshiva College graduate ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, founded Jonathan David Co., Inc., and thus embarked upon a long and distinguished career in the field of Judaica book publishing and distribution. Many bestsellers, including The Jewish Book of Why series, the Great Jews series, The Jewish Way in Death and Mourning, and Encyclopedia of Jewish Humor, have been issued under the JD imprint.
After decades of growth at several Manhattan locations, the company relocated to vastly expanded quarters in Middle Village, in the borough of Queens, New York, where we are based today.
In September of 1967, Jonathan David released the premier issue of Judaica Book Guide, a publication dedicated to the promotion and sale of books of Jewish interest. Now, after over half a century of experience in the field, we present JudaicaBookstore.com, an online version of our very popular JBG.
