Description
Jeff Norton has been a motor racing enthusiast since family visits to the blustery Rufforth airfield circuit in the late 60's where he was captivated by the sight of Tony Dean's Ferrari 206 Dino winning the sports car events. Hitch hiking to major events such as the Oulton Park Gold Cup to see cars like Chris Amon's Ferrari 312, Jochen Rindt's Gold Leaf Lotus 63 4wd, and Frank Gardner's Lola T70 Mk3b made sure he was hooked on the sport for life.
He trained in Business Studies & Graphic Design in the mid 70's but went on to pursue a career as a Menswear Buyer for a large mail order catalogue, later becoming a Planning Manager within the same company, deciding how budgets were to be spent, until redundancy in 2004 provided the opportunity to become a professional artist.
As well as spectating at many race meetings, other hobbies were model car racing, (link to British Slot Car Racing Association) where his cars won numerous concours prizes for the best painted body shells, later going on to compete in Hillclimbs & Sprints in a borrowed Formula Ford. As an outlet for his artistic leanings he started to paint racing cars, word of mouth around the paddock leading to numerous commissions from his fellow racers, which helped to pay for his racing. Surprised at this initial interest in his paintings, Jeff went on to advertise his services and expand his painting into landscapes & wildlife.
